Updating Credit Account Information

If you've obtained a copy of your credit report, check the details of all your credit accounts carefully, and if you think that any of the information on your report are wrong, contact your lender immediately. For example, if you've settled a credit account, but this is not shown on your credit report, contact the lender concerned and ask them to notify Equifax, Experian or Call Credit (the UK credit reference agencies).

It's worth noting however that the credit agencies generally receive information from lenders monthly, so it can take up to a month for the correct balance to show on your report.

To improve your credit rating, try to pay off the balance shown against some (or all) of your credit accounts, and then ask the lender to inform all three Credit Reference Agencies (CRAs).
